AI urges the government of Sri Lanka to ratify the UN Convention to Prevent Enforced Disappearances
The Amnesty International said, within past 20 months, hundreds of people have reportedly been abducted by the Sri Lankan Security Forces (SF) or armed groups in areas in the north and east of Sri Lanka, as well as elsewhere in the country including the capital Colombo.

Sri Lanka will contribute a police contingent to the United Nations Stabilisation Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH). The 19-man contingent led by an Assistant Superintendent of Police is scheduled to leave for Haiti today.
MINUSTAH which replaced the US-led Multinational Interim Force (MIF) in June 2004, is responsible for security in the Caribbean island.
